Age: About 18

Appearance: The one holding the two coffees

Canon Point: Kapitel 75

History: Konatsu at the 07-Ghost wiki

AU History: N/A

Personality:

Konatsu is the epitome of a responsible employee. He is polite, mindful of protocol and decorum, punctual, and patient (to a point). Above all, one of his most defining characteristics is that he is incredibly hardworking. His life is a testament to the belief that hard work can be a replacement for natural-born talent. He is serious and diligent and takes responsibility not only for himself, but for his comrades in the Black Hawks.

Though it can’t be denied that Konatsu is grateful for his place in the Black Hawks, it is also a position that gives him no small amount of frustration. Some of the Black Hawks – though skilled as fighters – have a pathetic work ethic. This leaves Konatsu, the only hard worker, to pick up the slack left by the others. He nags and pushes his comrades to do their work, then eventually does it himself (or spends twice as long fixing their mistakes). He must constantly work overtime to keep up – a fact he complains of quite frequently.

Konatsu is, in general, a very good-natured and friendly individual. He is on good terms with the other members of the Black Hawks and will often chat with them during down-time. When Teito is brought in as Ayanami’s begleiter, Konatsu welcomes him with warm enthusiasm (after ascertaining that he is a hard worker and not dead weight).

This is not to say that Konatsu is all positive feelings and friendly smiles. He is a harsh taskmaster and it is not beyond him to yell at those he feels responsible for if they are not carrying their weight – whether in the office or on the battlefield. He also has a slight vindictive streak. He feels it a small personal victory when he is finally able to get Shuri out of his hair by pushing him together with Teito. The fact that the two are at odds with each other only sweetens the deal (without a hint of remorse).

Konatsu is very polite to his superiors (except Hyuuga, who requires a different sort of handling) and always follows proper decorum, even under emotional duress. Konatsu goes out of his way more for Hyuuga than for anyone else. He pushes him to complete his paperwork, bullies him out of bed when he is late for work, and does everything he can to preserve the Major’s reputation.

He is very good at keeping his anger bottled up until it is appropriate to express it, at which point he tends to explode if he has been pushed past his limits. When completely overwhelmed – either by frustration or feelings that his lot in life is unfair – Konatsu has a tendency to react with the threat of violence. He takes up a wooden bat with nails driven into it on more than one such occasion.

In battle, Konatsu is an extremely competent soldier. He is efficient and can come across as more harsh and to the point than at other times. For Konatsu, battle means blood, death, and violence – it is a fact of war that he accepts but takes no pleasure from. He does not condone actions that disrespect the dead, not even those targeting enemy soldiers.

Konatsu has a remarkable level of determination, as evidenced by his efforts to join the Black Hawks. In the face of his family’s intolerance of him being born a normal human and his classmates’ mockery of his goals, he works hard to become an accomplished swordsman. When dueling with Hyuuga, he fights until his injuries cause him to pass out and even then his determination to prove himself is so strong that he manages to unconsciously score a hit.

While his determination is unshakable, his confidence does waver occasionally, though it has improved significantly since his entry into the Black Hawks. His low confidence can be attributed to both the fact that he was ostracized by almost his entire family and the fact that his peers found his goal to be completely ridiculous. It suffers the largest blow when he receives his rejection letter after applying to the Black Hawks. The rejection not only validated the unkind words of his family and peers in his mind, it also rendered all of his hard work meaningless. It took his duel with Hyuuga for him to realize that what was most important to him was not something he could receive from someone else; it was striving to have a strong heart and the drive to never stop trying.

Abilities: While Konatsu is a normal human with no special powers, he is not weak and is not someone to dismiss lightly. He is an incredibly skilled swordsman who has pushed his physical capabilities to the limit over the course of his training. He is able to hold his own among Warsfeil and Zaiphon users and he doesn't hesitate to fight through injuries until he can no longer move.

First Person:

[The video feed kicks in to show a blonde teenage boy with brows furrowed in irritation. He glares accusingly for a few moments before closing his eyes, bringing his fist up to cover his mouth, and clearing his throat.]

I want everyone to listen up! We're all here to work, but I'm sure I'm not the only one that has noticed there are some slackers. [He narrows his eyes.] And you know who you are.

Now, I know I may not have any authority in terms of ensuring any of you do your work, but I wanted to at least remind everyone that we all need to pull our own weight around here. I certainly can't force you to, but I can continue to remind you.

Daily, if need be.

That is not to say there aren't plenty of hardworking individuals here. Quite the contrary. And I want those of you who uphold your responsibilities to know that your work is appreciated, even if ours can seem a thankless job.

[He looks like he might have something else to say, but instead shakes his head slightly and salutes.]

I apologize for the interruption and thank you all for your attention.

Third Person:

Shou sighed as he wiped a cobweb out of a corner; ignoring the reproachful glare of the displaced spider. He hadn't imagined it would be difficult when he started, but his body wasn't used to this kind of work - bending, stretching, and twisting to clean every nook and cranny of the bathhouse - and his neck was becoming sore. Really, he should have been asleep by now. The night and his own duties were long since over. But on his way to turn in, he had passed a set of abandoned cleaning supplies.

He had only meant to stop long enough to store them away properly, but that was when he noticed the state of room in which they had been left. He felt a slow fit of rage build up at the sight of it. To say that whoever had been responsible for cleaning this area had left their duties half-completed would be a generous statement indeed. He tried to remind himself that it wasn't his responsibility and that he had no idea whose responsibility it was, but he couldn't very well just leave the place a mess.

And so he had begun furiously cleaning and now, an hour and several dusty rooms later, he was reaching the end of his second wind. Why was it that, where ever he happened to be, it seemed as though there was always a noticeable shortage of people who knew how to work hard and be productive?

Not for the first time since arriving in this strange place, he began to think on the comrades he had left behind and how they might be getting along without him. He didn't delude himself with the (slightly self-satisfying) notion that the day-to-day operations of the Black Hawks had fallen to pieces in his absence. After all, they had somehow managed to get by before he joined them. He did wonder, however, if Major Hyuuga was able to wake up on time for work in the mornings. Or if he was able to remember to take his uniform to the cleaners and pick it up when it was done. Or if he was getting any paperwork done at all.

This train of thought was only darkening his mood. He frowned as he rinsed out the dust rag and collected the rest of the cleaning supplies. He really did miss all of the Black Hawks. He wouldn't even mind seeing that Oak brat again if it meant seeing a familiar face. The corner of his mouth twisted in a wry grin. Perhaps that was going a bit far. He stifled a yawn and made his way to his futon where he would hopefully be greeted by dreams of candy apples and blue sky sauce.
